Everyone, please take a moment and donate to some disaster relief fund for the Katrina. Here's a site keeping track of all the links of where you can donate. A few moments, a few dollars, and a tax deduction.

As I have alluded to in the past, I'm from the south and all my family is down there. My Uncle and his family live in New Orleans, so this hits pretty close to home for me. They had to evacuate and haven't been able to return yet to see if there is any home to return to. And they're the lucky ones, unlike those poor souls trapped in the Superdome or those even unable to get that far.

New Orleans is basically a big lake right now. Mississippi might be worse off, but with a more spread out population it might be harder to deliver aid. This is America's Tsunami. Please help.

What a difference a couple of days make...

two wins, and the Phillies have doubled their chances of getting to the playoffs! And who is our biggest competition? Not the Marlins or the Astros, but the Mets! We are only 1 game ahead of them in the loss column, remember, and they have a much better run differential than we do.

Over at Tradesports, we have a 24% chance of winning the WC, and a 12% chance of winning the division. The Mets don't get as much love in the free market, you notice.

Lately I've been working, moving into my house, and prepping for my fantasy draft. I have a lot of thoughts on draft strategy, which I plan to share in a future post. I guess you can say that my blog is becoming self-indulgent :-)

Requiem to a great blog. Come back!

Check out this new website called fangraphs. I'm impressed. Very high on the coolness factor. See visually Abreau's history of GB/LD/FB %.

Blogging vacation soon to end

To all my readers anxiously awaiting my next post!

Here's a tidbit I learned earlier today: tradesports has the Phillies at 20% for the WC and 9% as the division winner. So, about a one in three chance of getting to the playoffs.

Those predictions are amazingly close to the ones at Baseball Prospectus.

Just something to think about.

Reason for the blogging hiatus

One of the features of being a public accountant is that it is not a 9-5 job. This does give me flexibility when it comes to taking breaks when things are slower, but when the work needs to get done, it needs to get done. August 15 is a tax deadline, and also I'm taking off all next week for a much needed vacation. Combine those things, and you have an accountant who just hasn't had time to blog :-(

When I return, I assume I will be blogging about how close the Phils are to first place in the NL East. Other than that unfortunate train wreck in Houston, the Phils have been playing great for quite a while now. I expect it to continue, and I can't imagine that Houston's surge can continue all season.

IMHO, the wild card (and possibly the NL East as well) will come down to which team gets hot last. The Phils are still in an excellent position, and are certainly capable of winning the WC.

Go Phils!
