William Shatner

(HT Sportsguy)

In a scene which literally must be seen to be believed, William Shatner gives his unique rendition of "Rocketman." It's one of those things which starts out painful, then becomes embarrassing, then comically tragic, then just plain comic, then unbelievable, and ends with the audience clapping uncertainly, Shatner smiling, and a sense of unreality.

If you have never heard it, the Annoying Music Show occasionally makes an appearance on Saturday morning's Weekend Edition on NPR. The show, which originates in Chicago, features just what the title says. Years ago, my wife and I were listening to the show in the car when they played Shatner's rendition of "Mr Tambourine Man". We had to pull over we were laughing so hysterically. That rendition, along with others such as (coincidentally) Lenoard Nemoy singing "Proud Mary" are available on one of the CD's in the "Golden Throats" series. Check it out, but be forewarned: you can only listen once, maybe twice, at a maximum.
